Planned Transportation Spending
An examination of Nevada’s 2011-2014 Statewide Transportation Improvement Program reveals that projects classified as “other” account for the largest chunk of planned spending (34 percent). These projects include $1 billion in state-funded unspecified projects, simply identified on the STIP as “State Funded Projects.” New road capacity projects follow, comprising 33 percent of the STIP. Road maintenance/minor widening projects account for 15 percent of the transportation spending, and transit projects* account for 13 percent. Safety projects make up 2 percent of the STIP. Bicycle/pedestrian projects, bridge maintenance/replacement projects and bridge capacity expansion projects each account for 1 percent of the proposed expenditures. Road or bridge projects with bicycle/pedestrian components (such as adding sidewalks when reconstructing a roadway) make up less than 1 percent of the planned spending. share
